Je suis Paris.
Je suis Francais.
My condolences to all of the people of France. What a horrible week it has been, but I commend the French people for going on with their lives and not being intimidated by ISIS. To walk the streets of Paris again, brings Paris back to the "city of light."
Now, how do we stop ISIS? I don't know.
What I do know is that we must alter our response to ISIS if we ever want to defeat them. The same old, same old is not working. We have the same response each time, bombing them in Syria, and then wonder why we are not defeating them. To have the same response to each western attack by ISIS and then wonder why we are not defeating them is INSANITY.
While we were sleeping, thinking we had won the war in Iraq, ISIS quietly and quickly grew to terrorize Syria and Iraq. The Syrians are fleeing their country rather than fighting back. The Iraq army laid down their arms and fled rather than fight ISIS knowing they would be slaughtered if they did.
We think we have contained ISIS in Syria. Obviously we have not. They are still sending their "soldiers" to the west to wreck havoc with free and democratic societies, and so far it is working.
For every one we kill, ten more rise up to fill the slot. ISIS appeals to the disenfranchised, the hopeless, and the petty criminals. ISIS gives these lost young people, in their 20's and 30's, a home, a sense of belonging, and a cause for which to fight. These misguided youth have a cause to believe in for the first time in their lives.
So, what do we do to stop ISIS? I don't know.
We know and understand that true Islam is not a violent religion of death. I have not read the entire Q'uran, but the parts I have read espouse love and peace, not death and destruction.
What, then, do we do with ISIS, whose followers believe in their own brand of Islam, that teaches hate, terror and death to all that do not share their beliefs? What do we do with an organization that is clearly not a "JV team" and that sells women as sex slaves? What do we do with a people that behead all that do not believe in their radicalized Islam? What do we do with a people that reject democracy for a totalitarian medieval caliphate? What do we do with a people that want to extend that caliphate to rule world wide?
Obviously, as a world, we have to provide better opportunities for these disenfranchised youth so that they have something else available to them than joining ISIS.
I think, world wide, we have the military means to defeat ISIS.
The world must unite, and that includes other Muslim nations, to defeat ISIS once and for all, so that those who have died in France, London, Madrid, Beirut, Egypt, and the U.S. have not died in vain.
